Mapping and Measurement

Mapping is priced by acreage and accuracy tier. Standard Ortho is 2D nadir mapping with no control from visit to visit. Verified RTK/PPK adds corrected positioning and checkpoint validation. GCP-Controlled uses rover-measured GCP targets and independent checkpoints. Not a boundary survey or verified as "survey-grade" from a Professional Land Surveyor (PLS).

Standard Ortho (2D only)

Minimum $450 (example: 3 acres)
  • Capture: nadir only, up to about 70/70 overlap
  • Positioning: no RTK/PPK correction
  • Control: no GCPs, no checkpoints
  • Use case: planning visuals, basic measurements, context
Per-acre rates
  • 0 to 5 acres: $60 per acre
  • 6 to 20 acres: $50 per acre
  • 20 to 50 acres: $40 per acre
  • 51+ acres: $35 per acre

Deliverables: Ortho GeoTIFF plus viewable JPG, KMZ or web preview.

Verified RTK/PPK Ortho (no GCPs)

Minimum $900 (example: 9 acres)
  • Capture: nadir, about 75/75 overlap (or higher as needed)
  • Positioning: RTK/PPK corrected (base station or network)
  • Validation: surveyed checkpoints to quantify accuracy (not used to control)
  • Use case: volumes, progress quantification, change detection
Per-acre rates
  • 0 to 5 acres: $120 per acre
  • 6 to 20 acres: $100 per acre
  • 20 to 50 acres: $90 per acre
  • 51+ acres: $80 per acre

Deliverables: Ortho outputs plus a short processing and validation summary (checkpoint count and results).

GCP-Controlled Ortho (highest confidence)

Minimum $1,600 (example: 15 acres)
  • Capture: nadir 2D mapping included; overlap typically 80/80+ based on conditions
  • Positioning: RTK/PPK corrected
  • Control: rover-measured GCP targets used in processing
  • Validation: independent checkpoints (separate from GCPs)
  • Optional add-on: Smart Oblique capture for 3D model and volume confidence (complex shapes)
Per-acre rates
  • 0 to 5 acres: $130 per acre
  • 6 to 20 acres: $115 per acre
  • 20 to 50 acres: $105 per acre
  • 51+ acres: $95 per acre

Note: GCP work adds an on-site control package fee based on site complexity and point count.

How minimums work
  • Minimums are project minimums.
  • Your price is the greater of the minimum or the per-acre calculation for the mapped acreage.
Analysis add-ons
  • Stockpile volume: included with Verified RTK/PPK Ortho up to 10 acres of analysis area
  • Stockpile volume otherwise: starting at $350 + $25 per acre (analysis area)
  • Cut and fill: starting at $750 + $40 per acre (analysis area)
Volume discounts
  • 0 to 5 acres: full rate
  • 6 to 20 acres: band rate reflects volume discount
  • 20 to 50 acres: band rate reflects volume discount
  • 51+ acres: typically quoted with a site-specific scope

FAQs on Pricing

Frequently Asked Questions Simplified for Complex Pricing
Which mapping tier should I choose?

Standard Ortho (2D only): A clean top-down ortho map for planning visuals and basic measurements. No control from visit to visit.

Verified RTK/PPK Ortho: Corrected positioning plus checkpoint validation. Best for volumetrics and progress quantification without the field time of a full GCP network.

GCP-Controlled Ortho: Rover-measured GCP targets used in processing plus independent checkpoints. Best when you need the most defensible workflow and highest confidence.

Quick rule: If you want volumes or repeatable measurements, do not use Standard.
What is an orthomosaic map?

An orthomosaic is a stitched 2D map built from overlapping drone images captured from above. It is scale-consistent and useful for documentation, measurements, and planning.

Note: Mapping deliverables are not a boundary survey.

What is RTK and PPK?

RTK and PPK are positioning methods that use corrections from a base station or a correction network to improve how accurately the drone camera positions are recorded.

This typically improves georeferencing and repeatability compared to GPS-only capture, which is especially helpful for measurement workflows.

What are GCPs?

Ground Control Points are physical targets placed on-site and measured with a survey rover. They are used during processing to control and correct the model to known coordinates.

Why it matters: GCPs add field time and require safe on-foot access, but they support higher-confidence results and clearer documentation.
What are checkpoints?

Checkpoints are independently measured points used to validate accuracy. They are not used to control the model.

In Verified RTK/PPK, checkpoints provide documented validation without building a full GCP network. In GCP-Controlled, checkpoints provide independent verification separate from the control points.

What is Smart Oblique capture and when do I need it?

Smart Oblique capture collects nadir images plus multiple oblique angles during a single mission. It is most useful for complex geometry.

Examples include stockpiles, steep slopes, berms, retaining walls, quarry faces, and other irregular shapes.

Best use: Better 3D model completeness and stronger volume confidence on complex shapes.
Does Smart Oblique replace GCPs or checkpoints?

No. Smart Oblique improves reconstruction completeness. GCPs and checkpoints are about control and validation.

If your project requires documented accuracy verification, GCPs and checkpoints are still the correct tools.

Do you always need crosshatch or multiple flight patterns?

Not always. Flight planning depends on the deliverables and the site.

For many 2D mapping jobs, a single nadir plan is sufficient. For complex geometry and 3D reconstruction, adding obliques can reduce the need for separate oblique passes, depending on conditions and the required output.

Can you guarantee 2 centimeter accuracy?

Accuracy depends on site conditions, capture settings, positioning method, and whether control and validation are used.

If you have a hard accuracy requirement, mention it up front so the correct tier and validation approach are used and documented.

What deliverables do I receive?

Typical deliverables include a GeoTIFF orthomosaic, a viewable JPG, and a KMZ or web-friendly preview.

Depending on scope, deliverables can also include stockpile volumes, cut and fill summaries, surfaces, contours, point clouds, and change comparisons between dates.

How do stockpile volumes and cut and fill pricing work?

Volumetrics are priced as a mapping job plus an analysis add-on based on the acreage of the analysis area.

Some tiers can include a defined amount of analysis area. Larger analysis areas are priced per acre.

Do I need mapping or just aerial photos?

If you need context, marketing visuals, and a clear overview, aerial photos are usually enough.

If you need measurements, areas, repeatable progress comparisons, volumes, or cut and fill, you want mapping.

What affects price the most?

The main drivers are total acreage, required tier (Standard Ortho vs Verified RTK/PPK vs GCP-Controlled), site access, and analysis outputs (volumes, cut and fill, comparisons).

Turnaround time and travel can also affect pricing.

What is your typical turnaround time?

Typical turnaround is 3 to 5 business days depending on scope.

Rush delivery may be available when schedule allows and can include a rush fee.

Travel, mobilization, and site access

Travel is quoted up front based on location and site access.

Sites requiring escorts, special scheduling, or extended on-foot access for control placement may include a mobilization or access fee.

What happens if weather delays the flight?

If conditions are not suitable for safe flying or good data quality, the flight is rescheduled.

If repeated attempts are required due to site availability or weather windows, a remobilization fee or refund credits (e.g., missed flights due to weather) may apply.

What do you need from me before you arrive?

I need the site address, a point of contact, access instructions, areas of focus, and any known restrictions.

For GCP-controlled work, I also need confirmation that GCP placement is allowed and that the site is safe and accessible for on-foot placement.

Usage and licensing

Usage is confirmed in the quote. Real estate deliverables are typically intended for listing marketing. Commercial projects often involve broader ongoing marketing use.

If you have a specific internal or external use case, include it in the request so scope and expectations are clear.
